Young Dialogue Maker

Our Goal:
Developing youth engagement and participation in creating and implementing local climate and environmental policies. We work towards involving young people in decision-making processes regarding their surroundings, as well as in the creation and implementation of local policies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Children and young people are aware of the seriousness of the climate change issue and its impact on life.

Program Young Dialogue Maker develops skills related to communication, participation, and leading dialogue processes, leadership, and engaging stakeholders, so that the voice of the younger generation is heard by local authorities and stakeholders – residents, representatives of institutions, businesses, NGOs, and the media.

Young people from all corners of the world are engaging in protest actions, organizing climate marches, and trying to influence decision-makers to take concrete steps to protect the environment. These are actions in the field of social activism.

Young people have innovative and creative ideas that can contribute to the development of groundbreaking solutions in the fight against climate change and environmental issues. Youth participation in decision-making processes increases awareness and responsibility among young people, helps build social skills, and gives this important group a sense of impact and purpose in their actions. It fosters social activism into initiatives based on collaboration. The key to success in this area is practicing participation not only at the school level and in working with teachers but also in relation to actual processes taking place within local governments. This requires building openness and understanding between young people and decision-making groups, such as local authorities.

Children and young people have the right to express their opinions and concerns about climate change. After all, they will live in the world we are building today, and the decisions made now will impact their future.

That’s why it’s important to support young people in their environmental efforts and listen to their voices. Collaboration and engagement from all age groups are key to solving today’s climate challenges.
How do we work?

o define your local problem, we engage in discussions, conduct initial needs assessments within various local stakeholder groups – schools, local government, NGOs, and local businesses. We gather and understand different perspectives.

The initial diagnosis helps identify the problem we want to address. We then establish a unique path and action plan that takes into account the challenges and opportunities ahead.

From the start, we actively engage all stakeholder groups to highlight the shared problem that we must solve together. We encourage communication, the exchange of experiences, and feedback in the spirit of social dialogue.

We learn from examples case studieshow to conduct public dialogue that includes youth participation in shaping local policy in Poland and other countries.

We develop competencies in young people related to building courage, sense of influence, and agency. We enhance teachers' competencies: the ability to listen empathetically, observe, provide feedback, build a collaborative environment, create educational situations, and work based on resources. By engaging local government, local businesses, and NGOs, we show local problems in a different light, broaden perspectives, and demonstrate a possible modern model of cooperation and conducting public consultations.

Polkowice Climate Dialogue
In recent years, we have increasingly witnessed unexpected and extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, fires, and ecological disasters. Many of these incidents could have been prevented with urgent actions in environmental policy. In response to these challenges, we established the Polkowice Climate Dialogue—an event that facilitates the exchange of experiences and cooperation between local government representatives, the scientific community, entrepreneurs, and residents.
