Climate Migrations

Our Goal:
to promote openness to cultural diversity, migration, and educational inclusivity in schools, where every child regardless of their country of origin can develop.

An educationally inclusive school is a place where every child, regardless of their origin, culture, or language, can develop their skills and talents.

It is a school that promotes openness to cultural diversity and respects migration as a natural part of the contemporary world.

In such a school, students learn acceptance and respect for others, which helps them become tolerant and responsible citizens.

Environmental and climate changes trigger economic and social changes. They are one of the catalysts for conflicts, as they are associated with: unequal access to resources or the inability to live in a threatened area. As a result of these changes and in processes that are linked to them (sometimes indirectly), large groups of people migrate. Until the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border and the war in Ukraine, Poland had not experienced the effects of large population migrations. Currently, a larger number of students, students of different nationalities, speaking foreign languages and functioning in different cultures is also a challenge for educational institutions - schools, teachers, students - both current and new. It doesn't have to be this way.

Our projects support refugee children and youth in the process of learning at school and integrating with Polish society. Thanks to a comprehensive approach, both the children and youth themselves, as well as their environment - teachers, school community, and parents - are supported to ensure young people's quick integration into school and lasting prospects for the future. Our experience in working with students in refugee crisis and schools was consolidated during projects carried out with children from Ukraine throughout Poland.

How do we work?
We provide support and knowledge

We help in acquiring skills and developing competencies based on communication (including intercultural), empathy, available assistance mechanisms, building support for those in need (student, parent, teacher, staff of pedagogical-psychological institutions), and building new social bonds and support networks.

We provide training and materials for teachers working with classes that include refugee children (who don't speak Polish, are in a difficult psychological state, don't know their surroundings) as well as training for intercultural assistants who will support teachers.

We help organize activities for school communities that will allow them to create their own ideas for including new students. We organize direct support for refugee children through integration activities during the school year (rotating groups, mixed with Polish students), enabling them to get to know their surroundings and find their place in the new environment, as well as during the summer period (mixed groups of Polish and Ukrainian students, summer day camps), providing care and rest for refugee children.

We support the preparation of safe spaces and care for children remaining in the Ukrainian education system (mobile pavilions with equipment), with Ukrainian-speaking supporting teachers or educators. These allow them to integrate with the local society and jointly develop support and existence mechanisms.
