MobiLab

Our Goal:
Effective and engaging field education using digital technology for data collection and analysis.

Polish schools rarely conduct field trips. Most lessons, including those related to nature, which require contact with the environment, are held within the school walls. As a result, students do not learn through experience, but receive knowledge in a traditional, lecture-based manner. This way, they miss out on many skills they could naturally acquire through field research.

MobiLab is a mobile workshop laboratory that combines new technologies with field activities and data analysis under the guidance of experts. It implements the goals of the Code For Green® environmental education program and model, of which it is an integral part. The original model was developed based on years of experience gathered through programs we co-created with teachers and in collaboration with Adam Mickiewicz University and Poznań University of Technology.

The Mobile Laboratory – MobiLab is a modern educational formula that not only enables the implementation of the curriculum in an engaging way but also immerses teachers, educators, and students in the world of technology and the design of solutions beneficial for the climate, water resources, and biodiversity.

Participants in the program get to know many modern tools, such as terrain mapping using tablets, or assessing water quality through physicochemical tests and studying zoobenthos. Their goal is to build multisensory connections with nature.

For students, learning in the field is more interesting and engaging than traditional teaching methods. Direct contact with the material encourages active participation in classes, increases motivation to learn, and helps better understand and remember the content. Participants develop research skills, critical thinking, data collection and analysis, and empathy towards the natural environment. We show young people, teachers, and educators how and why working in the field is valuable. It is also a form of popularizing science.

How do we work?

We show students and teachers that field research is an exciting adventure, and we demonstrate how and why it’s worth working in the field.

We teach empathy towards the natural environment, responsibility for one's actions, teamwork, and critical thinking, all of which are essential for building agency. During the lessons, we directly develop research skills, data collection and analysis, and teach how to use various technological tools.

We teach how to innovatively implement the curriculum related to environmental protection in the areas of air and climate protection, biodiversity conservation, water protection, and modern technologies. Our programs are designed in such a way that teachers of any subject can conduct the lessons.

We provide guidance on how to organize space and work within science and IT classrooms at schools, using existing and planned resources, in the spirit of STEAM education.

Participants in the program learn about many modern tools, such as surface analysis using thermal cameras. The goal is to build multisensory relationships with nature.
