so that young people can solve local problems using digital technologies.
We train teachers and help transform schools into centers of environmental education.
We live in a turbulent world. According to research, the percentage of children and young people worried about environmental changes is rising drastically. Students are receiving knowledge without the tools and skills to counteract them. And in a few years, they will have to face the full scope of the climate crisis.
This has led us, since 2017, to take on the challenge and operate as the Code for Green Foundation (formerly the Forum for Social Initiatives Foundation).
We are experts, scientists, educators, but also parents. We hear the voices of children and understand their concerns about the future of the world, which is why we have actively engaged in efforts to change the Polish education system.
the institution has implemented a model of practical education on climate and the environment and is familiar with the tools used for this purpose
future-oriented competencies are being developed in students, such as agency, digital literacy, creativity, responsibility, collaboration, and more
efforts are being made to engage local governments to allow young people to participate in shaping local climate policies
local businesses foster a sense of agency in children by investing in the implementation of their prototypes for solving environmental problems
Our programs are based on deeply engaging practical education, focused on finding solutions to real local problems. All of them align with the curriculum and the school reality.
Our actions stem from the real needs of the environment and bring measurable, practical changes.
We believe in our mission and are proactive.
We feel responsible for future generations, and this sense of responsibility drives our motivation to act.
We work in a cascading way – we educate teachers so they know how to effectively pass on knowledge and tools about empowering environmental education to children. We support school administrations and local governments in transforming Polish schools into centers of environmental education. We combine climate, water, and biodiversity protection education with new technologies so that young people can practically solve local environmental problems.
Together with a group of 120 teachers and 750 students, we developed an innovative practical education method based on tools such as: design thinking, story-based education, empathy, field education, project-based work, and digital technologies like programming, AI, and robotics. We teach how to make students want to be creators of technology in the service of environmental protection, not just its users.
Our method was validated during 48 months of testing in 19 schools in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany, with over 6,000 classroom hours! Successful implementation in some of the schools resulted in projects created by students, including a solar bench, an app to monitor water quality – FLODA, a water retention fence, power-generating turbines for residential buildings, and interactive beehives.
Teaching children and young people agency is a step towards building their well-being and a better future for the world. We foster it by helping children bring their ideas to life, while also working on their empathy, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and leadership.
We run 8 natural science and IT innovation labs in a school living which serve as examples of how to effectively develop digital and STEAM competencies in schools. living lab i We have created 3 educational spaces for preschool living labs and are planning more. We promote field research among teachers and students, using, among other things, a mobile natural science and IT laboratory or MobiLab. We work in agile methods, adjusting the topics and methods to current challenges. As a result, education in our schools is anchored in the needs of "here and now."
We implement our projects through regional and national EU programs (ESF, ERDF), international public funds (including Norway Grants, European Climate Initiative – Bundesministerium fuer Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umweltprivate Polish and international funds, including foundations (such as terre des hommes, Volkswagen Belegschaftstiftung). We are a member of OFOP, SOS for Education, and the Coalition to Save Rivers.
